Virginia Harvin

Retired Healthcare Administrator and Resident of Miami Gardens

Virginia Harvin is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tuskegee (Institute) University and a Master of Science in Public Policy and Administration from the Andrew Young School of Policy, Georgia State University. She worked for more than 31 years with Jackson Health System in many capacities including Director of Patient Care Services where she was responsible for a stand-alone maternity center, 6 school based health centers, nursing, social services, nutrition, health education and medical records.

Mrs. Harvin was called out of retirement to serve with Florida International University (FIU) College of Medicine as the first Lead Community Outreach Coordinator for the inaugural class of medical students. At FIU, Mrs. Harvin helped design and execute the Neighborhood HELP Program, a pioneering venture receiving national attention for pairing first year medical students with a family in communities and neighborhoods for their 4 years of medical school. Her skill set includes: developing effective and integrated multi-disciplinary work teams and health practice models; ability to grasp a vision and implement plans and objectives to accomplish; effective discernment of strategies, issues, discussions to coalesce into results; History of strong community health nursing expertise at the organizational, practice, academic models of care at the local and county-wide level.

Now retired, she works diligently with her husband, Presiding Elder Jessie Harvin, Jr., as District Coordinator of the South Conference in the AME Church, 11th Episcopal District which encompasses 18 churches from Pembroke Pines to Key West. She is mother to Natalie Nicole (husband Eric) Piner, Jessica Lynette Harvin, Elisabeth Leticia Harvin and grandmother to Khari, Jaden, Jordan and Tariya.
