Peacemaker Family Center, Trinity Church
Linda Freeman began her career as an environmental engineer with the U.S. Department of Energy in 1986 after completing her M.S. in Environmental Engineering at Stanford University (Palo Alto, California) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan). Since 1999, Linda has been the Executive Director of the Peacemaker Family Center (PFC) at Trinity Church in Miami Gardens, Florida. The mission of Trinity Church’s Peacemakers Family Center is to assist individuals and families in crisis to move from a place of instability to a place of self-sufficiency.
The Peacemakers Family Center has provided social services assistance to thousands of low and moderate income families with a variety of services including, but not limited to, food distribution, case management, crisis counseling, child care and summer camp, housing and utility assistance, at-risk youth development programs, family development programs, and job placement services. Linda is committed to inspiring under-resourced, urban youth to embrace science through hands-on STEM education in nature.
In 2017, Linda created the GEN2050 program. GEN2050 is an innovative youth development program for students in 6th through 12th grade living in Miami-Dade County, Florida. This year-round program engages students in intensive learning environments designed to inspire and prepare them for entrepreneurship, self-leadership, environmental stewardship, and STEM. In May 2019, the National Geographic Society became a National Geographic Explorer, focusing on STEM education for under-resourced youth. In addition to her youth development work, Linda has been deeply involved with humanitarian work around the world. She has participated on thirty-five humanitarian mission teams to the countries of Austria, Belize, Belgium, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Macedonia, Malawi, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Slovakia over the last twenty-five years.
Linda has been married to her husband, David, for 35 years. They enjoy life in South Florida with their children and grandchildren.
