THE CITY OF MIAMI GARDENS INVITES RESIDENTS TO KICK-OFF THE INAUGURAL “LIVE HEALTHY MIAMI GARDENS” WEEK
The week will kick-off with a free “Healthy in the Gardens Festival,” on August 5th, 11am-3pm.
MIAMI GARDENS, FL – July 12, 2017 – The City of Miami Gardens encourages residents to participate in the inaugural “Live Healthy Miami Gardens” (LHMG) Week from August 5th-14th, 2017. Patrons can expect a week comprised of community partners, local businesses, faith-based and community activities focusing on promoting health, wellness, annual check-ups and tobacco prevention. All events will be free and open to the public.
The LHMG week festivities will kick-off on Saturday, August 5th, from 11am-3pm, at Rolling Oaks Park (18701 NW 17th Court, Miami Gardens, FL 33056) with a free a “Healthy in the Gardens Festival.” The festival will feature a community resource fair providing free health screenings, youth sports clinic, food distribution, engaging cooking demonstrations, and more. Youth can participate in a sports clinic, face painting, and bounce houses. The day will also include local vendors, refreshments, giveaways, and live entertainment.

Live Healthy Miami Gardens aims to improve health outcomes of residents in the City of Miami Gardens and create an overall healthier and active community. LHMG focuses on the following four Health Impact Areas — Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD); Mental Health; Nutrition & Physical Activity, and Primary Healthcare. LHMG is made possible through a multi-year Live Healthy Community Partnerships grant from Health Foundation of South Florida.

Through an extensive competitive process, the Health Foundation of South Florida selected the City of Miami Gardens as one of two communities in Miami-Dade County to receive a 6 year (2014-2020) Live Healthy Community Partnerships Grant entitled Live Healthy Miami Gardens (LHMG). The mission behind LHMG is to foster and maintain a community culture of health and well-being for all residents of the city through access, information, activities, and services. LHMG’s goal is to improve health outcomes in the City of Miami Gardens and make it a healthier place to live. LHMG is designed to develop, implement, and sustain effective community-level health strategies for the following Health Impact Areas: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD); Healthy Eating and Improved Nutrition; Mental Health; Physical Activity; and Primary Health Care.
